MEET KATHRYN LOOMIS
Jazz Vocalist and Singer-Songwriter
California-native Kathryn Loomis is an accomplished jazz vocalist whose pure, soft, and warm voice matches her elegant singing style.
Whether performing a melancholy torch song or a cheerful swing tune, Loomis’s classic approach and experience with the Great American Songbook makes her performances as timeless as the songs she sings.
Kathryn conveys the nuanced emotions of vintage love songs with her natural stage presence and seemingly effortless musical intuition.
Loomis is also an accomplished singer-songwriter. She recently recorded her debut album (EP) of original songs, titled "The Nicest Thing." This project was recorded at The Sauce Pot Studios in San Luis Obispo.
Kathryn has always been an avid artist, drawing cartoon people and animals from a young age. She currently creates cartoon animal characters in a children's book style using pen and gouache paint.
Kathryn's specialty is singing with small jazz combos and big bands, including her combo Kathryn Loomis & Company.
Loomis has also sung with ensembles such as the Cal Poly University Big Band and Jazz Ensemble; the Cuesta College Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combos, and Cuesta Voce; Central City Swing, and the Allan Hancock College Jazz Band.
Loomis received her AA degree in Fine Art at Allan Hancock College, and her Bachelor of Arts in Music at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
Growing up watching old movies and musicals, Kathryn developed a love of the Great American Songbook from a young age. Some of Loomis's musical influences include artists such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Doris Day, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin. Inspired by these legends, Kathryn Loomis endeavors to tell a story with each song she sings.
